The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation projects and programs in education have over the years supported different initiatives which cater for school children in deprived areas. The Foundation has introduced a new project called the “Otumfuo Mobile Learning Project” (OMLP) which focuses on improving learning conditions of children in deprived communities by providing basic academic resources in a library such as reading books and computer lessons (ICT) to thousands of students in the Primary, Junior and Senior High schools in Ghana.
“Mobile learning” in this context is executed in a vehicle providing lending library and ICT facilities such as reading books and computers in order to bring a change in students’ learning conditions. The OMLP therefore, is to answer a clear need to give the less fortunate children in deprived areas, the similar learning conditions as other children in the cities and urban areas. It consists of three major parts namely; Reading (Read wise), ICT(ICT on wheels) and Cinema(Oman mfoni). The purpose of the project is to encourage the habit of reading and the use of ICT among basic school pupils. The cinema is intended to bring a message from His Royal Highness to His people and exhibit Ashanti culture. It will also be used as a medium to address pertinent issues in the area and show them the importance of education. The project is intended to run in most deprived schools which lack library and ICT facilities.
